FOOD & STATIONERY
November 2011
Pupils from both the Primary and High School sections of the school collected food and stationery items for the less fortunate. These were presented at the final Primary School Mass on 2 November. The items will be distributed to various local charities.

BLANKETS 2011
31 May 2011
The children have been knitting squares and coercing Moms, Grans Aunts etc. to do the same. To date we have collected well over 6500 squares, most of which have been sewn up into blankets and knee rugs for the elderly. Some of the blankets were handed over today to two homes in Germiston. A total of 84 blankets in all were collected / made this year. This is a superb effort.

Some of the children show some of the blankets before we went off to Prim Villa and Elandsvalei to hand them over.

Ten of the grade 7’s came along to hand over the 8 blankets and 8 knee rugs. Here they are with one resident and one of the workers at Prim Villa.

At Elandsvalei they found some of the residents relaxing in the sun and handed over 17 blankets and 8 knee rugs.

Ten more blankets were handed to a representative of Kowa Pienaar Home for the Aged.
The balance will be sent to “Hole in the Wall”, an organization that cares for abandoned babies.
Thanks to all the people who knitted squares and helped sew up the blankets.
High School Outreach –
Term Two 2011
·
All
the cans of food donated by pupils for civvies day were taken to Edenvale hospice,
a home for the terminally ill;
·
R1000
was used to buy blankets for a tiny village in Lesotho, following an appeal on
their behalf;
·
The
C.O.P.S paid a visit to Woodside sanctuary, a home for the profoundly
intellectually disabled in Johannesburg. They receive some money in the form of
government grants but this does not cover their running costs. We, as a school, would like to help
them in any way we can. They have given us a “wish list” of items (the list is
detailed below) and we are appealing to pupils to help by donating items on the
list. We will be visiting the home again on the 10th September.
·
Some
of our pupils will be helping the “Stop Hunger Now” programme on Saturday. This
Germiston-based programme involves packing meals for needy people in Germiston,
especially the schools. Their aim is to stop the cycle of hunger by feeding the
school-going child who can then get an education and then a job, which means he
will be able to feed himself in the foreseeable future. To get involved, go to www.stophungernowsa.org
·
ALL
donations will be welcome – food, clothing, blankets, toiletries etc. Beanies
and scarves which are confiscated are also donated to those in need.

LENT 2011
The pupils made small sacrifices during Lent and donated the money to the Bishop’s Lenten Appeal. They collected just over R6000.00 – well done children, you have made a difference to underprivileged children.

Representatives of each section of the school bring up the offerings collected.

C.O.P.S
UPDATE
C.O.P.S started 2011 off with a bang! We sold
ribbons on Valentine’s day for R2 each, decorated the
quad and foyer to get people into the spirit of St Valentine’s, and then we
organized a Mr. and Miss Valentine’s competition. The winners were Mpho and Michael in Grade 9. A total of approximately R600
was raised.
In addition to this, C.O.P.S held a Civvies day on
Monday 14th February, on which pupils were allowed to wear jeans and
a red/pink or white shirt. As payment for Civvies day, each child had to donate
on tin of food for the hospice in Edenvale. We are very grateful to everyone
who has made a difference in these sick peoples’ lives.
We are currently busy with two projects: collection
of dog food for the SPCA and the fashion show on the 2nd of April.
Please support both these endeavors!
Remember Jesus said: “I tell you the truth,
whatever you did for one of the least of these, you
did for me.”
